Replica (2024)
Replica sheds a light on the excessive supply of football jerseys but with football comes a massive industry of production and consumption. Every season football clubs change their jerseys and design at least three new ones for fans to purchase. Most jerseys end up in the trash or storage after one to three years when they are thought to have fulfilled their purpose and most are made with 100% polyester. Replica revolves around designing football boots with discarded jerseys. The boots are modular which makes the boots easily recyclable and more efficient use of the material. In that way the project speaks to emphasis on sustainable design and sustainable football.
Replica was my BA Product Design graduation project from the Iceland University of The Arts. It was exhibited at Reykjavík Art Musueum on the 10th to 20th of May 2024. Here is link to a virtual experience of the exhibition.
