Lava City (2022)
Can the energy of a volcano be processed to build sustainable communities?
Volcanoes are one our underestimated resources. The average volcanic eruption can produce around 25 megawatts of thermal energy, which is equivalent to 1.600 Hiroshima nuclear bombs. Additionally, 80% of the world's landmass was created through volcanic eruptions.
Lava City is a speculative city where volcanic energy is harvested from active volcanoes to supply Lava City and its factories, farms and buildings with energy and power. The factories in the city collect lava rocks from the volcanoes, process them, and build infrastructure using three dimensional print technology.
